Peer Educators
Peer Education….What are we about??
The Peer Educators are recruited from several high schools within Walton County and are predominantly from Monroe Area Comprehensive High School. These youth volunteer a total of 6 or more hours monthly and become a “buddy”/positive peer role model to our residents residing at The Alcove. They are selected on a yearly basis
through a series of recruitment activities and are considered advocates for today’s youth. Many of them stay involved in community outreach, community events and volunteer services for other agencies when called upon. These events include activities for Red Ribbon Week ( anti-drug and alcohol campaigns), Feed The Hungry, the annual Style Show promoting Healthy Choices, and a Back to School Fair hosted each year in the community. The Peer Education program was established to promote youth advocacy and to encourage youth to involve themselves in community decision-making and policy changes. Being a part of the Peer Education Program means commitment, opportunities for growth and serving others who are in need.
